PURCHASE FROM SAINT ETIENNE
Saint Etienne is an eclectic British pop and "indie dance" band that every Christmas music collector knows well, thanks to their tradition of releasing holiday singles through their fan club. As it almost always happens if you're not on the fan club mailing list, by the time you hear about them they're gone. And then you're left to the mercy of the secondary market (eBay, etc.).
Well, this year, the enigmatic Indie institution that is Saint Etienne is releasing an entire album and, thanks once again to Randy at Hip Christmas, we all get a little heads up.
The album contains 14 tracks, including 7 newly recorded. The remaining 8, of course, represent the highlights of Saint Etienne's recorded holiday history. Only 2 of the 15 tracks have ever been commercially available (the 1993 Christmas single featuring "I Was Born On Christmas Day" and a cover of Billy Fury's "My Christmas Prayer").
"A Glimpse of Stocking" is limited to 3000 numbered copies and can only be purchased from the Saint Etienne web site until November 20. After that, as they say, "the shop doors will shut". No more than 3 copies may be purchased by any one individual. And there are three purchase packages. For the CD, alone, you'll pay £12, plus postage (works out to around $25 American). The CD and a limited edition Christmas card, signed by all 3 band members, can be yours for £16, plus postage. And, if you've really got some money to toss around (or if you always thought Carly Simon was singing about you), you can get the CD and the Christmas card plus a bonus CD with a personally dedicated Christmas song, not on the main CD, with your name in the lyrics. That last package will run you £150, plus postage, but such is the price of immortality.
